The Chappaqua Summer Scholarship Program (CSSP) is a unique three-year summer academic enrichment program for college-bound New York City high school students. for the last forty-one summres, 20 students have come to Chappaqua, NY during the week, returning home on the weekends; attend challenging classes, participate in interesting recreational and cultural activities in the afternoon and live with local families. This program is free to our students; we are supported by local contributions and run by an all volunteer board. Join us to support our students.
CSSP was founded in 1968 in ressponse to the educational problems afflicting the scholastically motivated young people in NYC. Concerned New Castle residents felt that our community should and could share our resources, particularly our school and peaceful suburban setting, and create an opportunities for success in school and later careers.
Now in its 42nd year, CSSP continues to be a rewarding experience for our students, their parents and our Chappaqua families. Our students are a diverse group. We have hosted students born in Jamaica, Vietnam, the Ivory Coast, Kosovao, Albania, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and of course New York. Our local host families love to share their homes witha new young person and often develop lasting friendships that can be helpful in college and beyond. Although we can take only a small amount of credit, we are proud our students have attended many wonderful schools including: Brown, Penn, UVA, RPI, Cornell, Dartmouth, Syracuse, Ithaca, Princeton, Duke, CUNY Honors and MIT. Our graduates are lawyers, teachers, engineers, financiers and doctors. Equally important, many graduates are inolved in community service. Several of our alumni have served on our Board of Directors.
